Irish Ceili

Every Sunday in a Pub very far away from Ireland there is a gathering.  It is a gathering of musicians who share a love for music at its roots.  They gather like clockwork around each other until the sound of violins, bodhran drums, flutes, mandolins, and other foreign looking instrument fill the spaces between them. I’m not a musician and have very little vocabulary to describe the way it sounds. But I like to imagine an instrument as an extension of a heart and as its sound mingles with others you can hear the respect between hearts; sometimes it blends in accord, sometimes it repeats social formalities, sometimes it grates, and sometimes it leaves the traditional for a more playful interaction. But it always comes back to the heart of a Ceili, a social gathering celebrating music and people. For the observer it’s the ideal accompaniment to Sunday afternoon.  This Ceili is hosted at the Irish Embassy Pup (http://www.theirishembassypub.com). A Pub, which has a way of tucking you into its corners and together with the music, makes you feel quite content as your Guinness catches the afternoon light.

A Walker Winter Picnic

I’ve made a lot of memories with the Walker girls. Back from when we first met in high school to being college roommates with Jenny and Stephanie. So when Stephanie asked me to take portraits of her and her family you can imagine my excitement.  Our inspiration was winter picnics and, of course, Louisa May Alcott’s Little Women.  After ravaging our parents houses for picnic essentials and making some of my “oh so delicious” hot chocolate, we headed up the mountain carrying our loot. My Sister Kristy also came along, snapping photographs like a pro; she is quite good with a camera. The whole adventure was a smashing success and produced photographs of which I am most proud.

Welcome Miles Emerson

Welcome Miles Emerson, the beautiful baby boy of Hannah Harman and Shane Lee.  It’s plane to see he’s the spittin' image of his father and has the disposition of his mother; this of course means he will be quite the little man in a few years. I for one am excited to watch this little one grow up, just think of the possibilities. Congratulation Hannah and Shane and well done.
